New Plug-In HOURCARs Join Saint Paul Fleet
Thanks to a partnership among HOURCAR's parent organization the Neighborhood Energy Connection, the City of Saint Paul, and Xcel Energy, two new plug-in hybrid vehicles are being added to HOURCAR's downtown Saint Paul fleet. A silver Toyota Prius joins the existing HOURCAR vehicle at the TPT hub and is available for reservations immediately. A red Toyota Prius will be launched shortly at the new Lawson hub.
HOURCAR was the first car-sharing organization in the world to add plug-in hybrid vehicles to its fleet. These new cars, converted by ReGo in Minneapolis, bring the number of plug-in shared HOURCARs to four. Major contributor Xcel Energy will be reviewing the vehicles' performance so that they can better serve the emerging electric vehicle market.
According to Mayor Chris Coleman, "Saint Paul continues to lead the charge in energy conservation and sustainability. Our new plug-in vehicle options will make it even more convenient for people to get where they need to be in a way that minimizes their carbon footprint."
The City of Saint Paul is installing 20 public vehicle charging stations in the coming months. Locations, rates, and details on the charging stations can be found at www.stpaul.gov/EVchargingstations.
Useing HOURCAR, students no longer have to pile into gas guzzling vans to go to their weekly volunteer site.”
